Author Interview with Anna Applegate

Author Interview
Name: Anna Applegate
Pen Name if different: Same as above ☺
What first inspired you to write?
Some of the girls I worked with at one of my first jobs out of college all loved to read, almost as much as I did! We liked the same genres and devoured books together. We’d chat about them at work, and the more books we read, the more I seemed to go off on tangents about different directions the book could have gone. I’d come up with alternate endings, or additional things that could have happened that might have made the book better, or whatever the case may be. I loved reading and I wanted more and more from my books.
Finally, one day one of my friends started teasing me when we disagreed on one of the books we read. I wasn’t a fan, and she loved it. So she told me, if I thought I could do better than I should give it a try.  We laughed it off at the time, but after a few days I thought, why not. I sat down and started writing. I had no idea where I was going, or what I was doing, but I furiously started writing everything that came to my head. My first novel came to me that fall of 2012. I released that book in June of 2013, Protected (Book 1 in the Ariya Adams Trilogy), and I’ve been writing ever since. I focus on writing a book I’d want to read, and it has been a blast!
How do you come up with the ideas for your stories?
Honestly, they just sort of come to me when I’m in a creative mindset – whether that’s watching a movie or reading other books. Usually when my imagination gets triggered, I can be in a new place and the ideas start flowing. That’s when I need my journal, or phone to take notes and write down everything that comes to my mind – because as quickly as it comes to me, it leaves just as fast if I don’t get it out and jotted down somewhere ☺
What question do you hate the most about being a writer?
I don’t think I’ve gotten a question I hate about being a writer. I think it’s a job that’s so interesting and exciting, and a lot of people just don’t know a lot about it. Heck, I didn’t know much about self-publishing, or that I could be an author without being traditionally published. It’s fun to educate people and let them know what’s possible when it comes to writing!
Are you indie or traditionally published?
I’m an indie author! I self-publish through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and I’m working on getting everything I have up on iBooks as well.  I may be expanding in a few months to more distribution channels, too.
Have you ever tried the other style of publishing?
I have not tried traditional publishing, yet. It may be something I’m interested in pursuing if the right opportunity comes, or if I have more time to pursue it myself in the future. Right now, I’m really enjoying being a part of the indie community and learning how to really get better at self-publishing my content!
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on Book 2 in my paranormal romance / urban fantasy duology. The 1st book, A Hunter Within, is set to come out this July. I’m hoping to finish this novel off in the next few months and then jump into a historical romance or maybe a historical / time-travel romance! We’ll have to see what novel I’m leaning towards once I wrap up this second novel in my duology! I’ve only published paranormal romances before, so I’m excited to get into some other types of romances and time periods!
What is your most recent/upcoming release?
I have a new novel coming out this July! It’s called A Hunter Within and will be Book 1 in a paranormal romance / urban fantasy duology. The main character is Jules Parker, a college student in the last year of her research program on track to become a Research Scientist. We first meet Jules right when she has started her final internship at Falcone Industries, a prestigious pharmaceutical research company. There will be paranormal creatures, secrets, romance and adventure! I can’t wait for this one to come out. Writing this book was the fastest I’ve ever written before, because everything was just easy to get out on paper. I enjoyed writing it! It was my first time writing with new characters outside the ones I first published with, so that part was an adventure for me! I’ll be announcing the release date soon and will continue to update everyone on my Social Media Channels on the Cover Reveal and Pre-Release information as well!
